Clitheroe Writing Group

Clitheroe Writing Group was founded in 1999. We meet on the fourth Wednesday of the month in Clitheroe Library from 7pm to 9pm. New members or interested visitors are always welcome.

The aim of the group is to offer stimulation and support to members with their writing. Once a year, we publish an anthology of the best fiction and poetry by writers living in the Ribble Valley and beyond. Submissions are open to anyone and membership is not required for publication.

I have had some short stories published and won some poetry prizes, but mainly I am a children's writer. My second book, Wildthorn, published by Macmillan, due out February, 2009, is a teen novel that may also appeal to adults. Set in a Victorian lunatic asylum, it is a story of betrayal and forbidden love.

I also run creative writing courses in Clitheroe and teach Creative Writing at Alston Hall, Longridge, and for the W.E.A. in Burnley and Accrington.

You can find out more about me on the Flax section of the Litfest website and read a story of mine in Flax 1 'Square Cuts':www.litfest.org/website/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=5&Itemid=66

Ribble Valley Poetry

RVP organises poetry readings (often with more than one reader) throughout the year, both for professional, published poets and also for local poets. RVP also runs poetry workshops, ususcroll-imageally to coincide with the readings. In conjunction with Clitheroe Books Press, RVP publishes pamphlets for and of the readings. They are also willing to publish the works of other poets who have some connection with the Ribble Valley.(RVP has organised open mike evenings and would do so again if there was enough local interest.)
